Does it have to be this hard? Ive called the Board of Education 4 times. The first phone call went pretty well...they said they would go out and observe her the first of Oct....I called back the next day (last Wed) and talked with another girl...the other two were out. She said someone would call me back that afternoon or the next...ok its Monday and still nothing so Ive called back and left another msg.

I really want them out there NOW....Sydnie does well when she'll sit but when she's done she's done!! Whether she'll be at the computer or out the door...ughhhh

Anybody have any suggestions on making sure this happens.....

Did you put your request in writing? All requests for any IEP changes or evals really should be put in writing, this includes requests for aides/shadows. I would highly suggest you do this if you haven't. You could even do it as a follow up stating "this is to follow up to the phone conversation I had requesting an eval/aide for my daughter. I was under the impression this was going to be taken care of on this date..... ect.."

Something like that. Or just state it as a request. You can also call and IEP meeting (put that in writing too) and then hand them any and all requests and changes in writing at that time. If you request the IEP first, they have 30 days to comply with an IEP meeting. If you just request an eval they have 60 days to do the eval. I don't know if "observing and getting an aide" falls under this 60 day timeline but they do have timelines they have to follow.

And if you really think they might fight you, starting a papertrail is really the best route to cover your rear incase you have to go further with this (like due process).

Good luck.

A.

Yes, sitting tight is a good idea! Give them a chance to observe her and if by chance they don't, then you can do a polite reminder letter of the events and a "how can we get this taken care of" comment in there so they know you have put it all in writing but willing to work as a team Wink

Good luck!!!
