My daughter used to take it because I made her but now she knows she has some control and will not take it. She spits it out and them closes her mouth very tight. It is such a struggle and I really want her to take it. I also can't get her to take the DHA oil since it tastes nasty too. Any tips PLEASE!

I stick it Carson's bottle. You might try putting it in something she really likes and you know that she will eat. I have discovered that if I let it sit any length of time he will not take the bottle. So I guess you need to mix and feed immediately so the taste doesn't take over.

Are you using the microencapsulated kind? Eliza doesn't really notice the taste of it. Kokie was recommended using the fruit spreads (the no sugar kind) which seems to help. I have also heard of parents using smoothies or pudding. For DHA we use Nordic Juniors which has a strawberry flavor Eliza seems to enjoy.

Thank you for the ideas. I will try the pudding or fruit spead and see how that works out. I did try putting it in a bottle but she throws the bottle.

Thanks

Kim

I give it to Marina right before her meals. I put it all together in a little cup (very little, the ones where you get the medication in when you are in hospital, they are pretty flexible). Then I thicken it with honey. Then I lay her in my arm (like a baby). This way I can give it to her easily and the "thing" cannot run out of her mouth to fast and I can shove it back in. Honey also covers the tase a little bit.

covering the taste of nutrivene

Hello,

My son (Ds) is 8 months old now. Since 2 months of age we have been giving him the nutrivene (not encapslated) and we recieved a great tip..........We get the medicine flavoring from our local pharmacist....you know what they use to flavor childrens meds. We got Rasberry. It is pretty concentrated and thick and you don't need much. I put it in a dropper after mixing and shoot it in the back corner of my sons mouth. Now...he opens his mouth for it Smile Go figure.
We did try the encapslated Nutriviene with applesauce and its not working yet so we are sticking to this routine!

Good luck
Holly

Dear Holly,

This sounds like a great idea!! I think we will have to try this!! I also wanted to share our current routine, which is working fairly well. I mix the Nutrivene (also non-encapsulated) with just a few drops of water, a pinch of formula, and a very small pinch of organic sugar in a medicine dropper. We squirt this down his throat and he usually can keep it down. Any other method we have tried, and he loses his lunch and TNI dose! Sad
We have tried putting it in his bottle, but I hate the thought of a whole bottle not tasting good. I'd rather he just be able to down it and get it over, and then enjoy a bottle.

Thanks again!!

Ibby
