Namenda with young children?

Does anyone have their children taking Namenda? My daughter's Speech Therapist recommended we look into her taking the drug. She said that other children in our area have started taking the drug and have improved clarity and length of sentence. I looked on-line and can only find information with it related to older individuals with DS. There is only one doctor in town that is prescribing this to young children. To me, that also could be a red flag.

I have NEVER heard of this! I wouldn't be giving it to my child unless our developmental ped. (who helps write the healthcare guidelines for people with DS) had some input on it. (although, when Angela was little we did give her piracetam even though the same peds said there were on conclusive studies conducted.)

I'm gonna go google it now. LOL

Ok, well that was easy enough. I wonder if the doctor there knows he's violating FDA regulations for prescribing this to children? When we were getting piracetam we had to get it in Canada or the UK and have it shipped here. Someone needs to look in on this doctor!

In the UK this drug is still in the clinical trial stage for adults with DS who are OVER 40 AND HAVE ALZHEIMERS. (The US is almost always last to do any trials or have drugs approved.) Here's a link to the UK trial information http://druglib.com/trial/60/NCT00240760.html

It's a very long time here before this drug is approved for children with DS.
