I met Jennifer too and felt weird, like I had read her diary and knew way more about her than I was supposed to!!! I didn't really get to talk to her, but I went to her presentation with Kathryn Soper and she seems like a really nice, really down to earth person.

I just started reading the book today (first 4 chapters)- I'm bawling like a boob!! It's funny how even though I know what the ending is going to be she can have me sitting on pins and needles. Very discriptive and touching.

I just finished it two weeks ago on vacation. I made that my mission of my trip to finish the book because with 5 kids at home I never get to read. But during the 3 hour car ride both ways I took care of it. Loved the Book!!!

I too met Jennifer and she's awesome. I read her book and related to it on nearly every page and I keep up with her blog and her writing for ParentDish. You can always find her at www.jennifergrafgroneberg.wordpress.com

LOVED II!!! I so wanted to meet Jennifer (I do feel like I know her well enough for first name basis, even though we have never met ). I looked for her on Friday at the convention, but I think she was in a session because I couldn't even find her booth. I too did not want the book to end and enjoyed every page of it.
I also just read Memory Keeper's Daughter on our recent vacation. Mixed reviews on that one.
Blessings,
Kris

Now it's MY turn to feel awkward...do I comment, do I not comment??? I feel as if I'm reading a thread I maybe shouldn't be...
But I wanted to say THANK YOU and you're all awesome...thank you for supporting my book, and for supporting me.
Which doesn't surprise me at all--I tell everyone that I've met the VERY BEST PEOPLE, all because of DS.

Just wanted to add that I, too, loved the book! It's interesting to read something that you can relate to so personally. Although I found out prenatally, the emotions are sort of the same, just in a different context.

Gosh, you know I'd love to have a book club discussion about that. Sometimes people ask me if I wish I'd known, or sometimes they act like it's my fault for not knowing...
I don't have an answer. We did the best we could with the testing that was available at that time; and if we'd known, I can only guess how it would feel, or how it would have made me feel.
But I wonder? How the adjustments are the same/different?
I've been reluctant to do a book club discussion on my own book (enough of me, already!) but there are things I'd really love to discuss. This is one of them!

My wife and I are currently 16 weeks in to our pregnancy. There were markers for DS since the first ultrasound. Yesterday, the FISH results confirmed DS.
I've started reading "Holland" myself because of the recommendations of this site. I am a big fan of reading and have enjoyed this selection.
I think I shared many feelings like the ones in the beginning of the book. I haven't felt sure what to say to everyone. I don't want this condition to define my son, but I know that people should know. Does that make sense?
At this point, though, my biggest fear resides in the fact that there is still so much more time to go until he will be born. I've heard the heartbeat several times, seen him on the ultrasound twice, but I'm scared I'll never get to hold him. I think, maybe, that may be a difference between finding out at birth and during the pregnancy.
But, to stay on topic, thanks for the recommendation of this book.

Hi, Randy!
And welcome...
I love your perspective, and that your greatest wish is to hold your baby. I will keep a good thought for you and your wife, certainly.
And in the next few weeks, I'll get going on organizing a book discussion. I used to do them more regularly, but life got away from me. There are definitely things I'd love to discuss, themes in my book that are really things parents of kids with DS will have unique perspectives on. Such as prenatal v. postnatal diagnosis, for instance.
So stay tuned! I'll get some questions up soon.
