She went to FL a few weeks ago with her sisters and had a great time. Shortly after returning...she started not feeling well. Mostly tired and some digestion issues. Then she started to break out in a rash. She thought it was a heat rash, allergic reaction to something. But it's gotten worse. The marks went from small red spots to HUGE purple welts. The backs of her thighs are almost all purple. Her regualr doctor originally sent her to a dermotologist and she had her appointment today. They took a biopsy (scary huh?) and gave her a steriod cream to put on it.
Coincidentially, my FIL had the exact same rash a few weeks ago....his doc prescribed the steriod cream and his has gone away.
My father said this could be something serious..but they don't know what (or they aren't telling me what they know..parents still do that with their 40 year old children). He said it is something vascular..and could effect her heart?? She has no known heart issues at this point at all. But if vessels are bursting in your body...that can't be good.
It doesn't hurt her...but it looks AWFUL...and I mean AWFUL.
Of course googling rashes points you to awful things...mainly the L word. If you could pray, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you everyone..and I'll keep you posted.

Lisa,
Is it a rash or bruising? This sounds a lot like what my mom has been dealing with for a couple years (and is currently having trouble with again). My mom has something called ITP. Her platelet count drops for no known reason, and sometimes it drops dangerously low. She was treated successfully when it was originally diagnosed (treated with a combination of steroids and IVIG) and went for over a year with no problems. This winter (while she was in Florida, as a matter of fact!) she noticed bruising again and now she's right back where she started. Very frustrating. They did a bone marrow biopsy back when she was first diagnosed to rule out leukemia. That was scary!
In re-reading your post I see that she went to a dermatologist. I can't believe a dermatologist would confuse bruising with a rash, so it probably isn't the same thing at all. I'll pray for your mom that they figure out what's going on and that it's nothing serious.

Just a quick update....all tests have come back negative. So, while she still has a few more left to do...everything points to vascultis. They have finally prescribed a steriod (prednisone) and hopefully the rash will go away. Thank you all for the prayers!!
