Anxiety is starting to kick in...

I have a job interview next Tuesday...in Ohio...which is great, but I live in New York! Ha!

I'm starting to get really excited, but also really nervous. At least once a day, I contemplate cancelling the interview. I'll be thinking about things and suddenly be overwhelmed with a feeling that there is no way I can even consider leaving the life we have here. All of our friends. All of our family. Lucy's services. In the past few years, I've become really active in our community. We've made some great friends that also have children and have playdates and sometimes even a double date! Important to that, we have babysitters here!

These thoughts are almost always immediately followed with an equally overwhelming feeling that there is no way I can even consider staying here. We've been over this again and again. The future, if we stay, is bleak financially and professionally.

I have been able to think of almost nothing else, and I know it's going to get worse as the interview approaches. I'm trying to not put the cart before the horse, but it's hard.

Thanks for listening to me vent! Smile Have any of you relocated? Do you have regrets? If you have relocated as adults, do you ever feel like it's home?

Good luck with your interview Courtney. I can understand your anxieties about leaving family, friends and all the other stuff behind, but you gotta remember the reason why you decided to relocate in the first place. And anyway, if it doesn't work out then you could always return "home".

I can only imagine the fears going through your head! The what-ifs that come with major life decisions are enough to drive anyone crazy!

You know you need to move. You and your husband have already decided you need to for the future of your family and the careers that support those little faces. It's natural to second guess yourself. You didn't jump into this decision with your eyes closed. You researched areas you feel you can live, get the services you need for Lucy, and good schools for both kids.

Like Linda said, one thing at a time. You will make it! And, you've made a lot of connections with a lot of other families via the internet. I bet you find it easier to "set up house" where Lucy is concerned than it was the first time around.

Hugs, and I'll be thinking of you through this interview.

I can understand your anxiety given that we are in the same process. I waver about moving sometimes but we really need to move from here. It will certainly be challenging getting services etc organised for Talitha but we are praying it all works out. Will pray the same for you.

We relocated for work almost nine years ago now for Mike's job. When we moved it was before we had the children, but found settling in not to be a huge issue. I found we socialised alot with people from our respective jobs which helped, but we did visit home LOTS in the beginning! When the kids were born I became more settled and saw our new place as home. I think having children is a great ice-breaker when it comes to meeting new people and there are always so many activities and groups where you can meet new mums and feel more part of your new community. I do miss having family close by........and the babysitting!........but for us it was the best thing we did and if we'd stayed 'home' we both would of missed out on great job opportunities.

Good luck with the interview!

Linda, The job is as a Disabilities Support Specialist at a university. I'd be arranging accommodations for students with physical disabilities and hearing and visual impairments.

Thanks, everyone, for the words of encouragement so far! I appreciate the moral support!!

Thanks for checking in, Linda! That was so sweet of you.

The interview went well, I think. I won't know anything for a week or two. I think I did well, but there will definitely be some things that Mark and I wil need to discuss if I were to get an offer! One step at a time!

Thanks for all the support!! Hopefully I'll have good news to share, soon!
