Hi everyone!
I don't remember when the last time was I came to the forum. It must have been over one year. I used to live in London, UK and now I have relocated in Montreal, Canada.
Since we moved here, there have been lots of changes with Toru.
We are getting lots of family help and support which is fantastic for all of us.
Toru also has been going to an early intervention centre called "Yaldei" since last September where he spends 12 hours a week with his own educator. The educator goes to all the therapies in the centre and applies it throughout the week. Toru has 1 speech, 1 physio therapy per week on top of a daily group art therapy.
When he started at the centre, he did not sign and we weren't sure if he had receptive language. Now, he is signing like a "pro and started saying quite a few words too. We are waiting for a surgery to be scheduled for ear tubes, though. He never had any ear infection that I know of but the doctor said his hearing is 50% down because of the blockage in the middle ear.
I cannot wait for this surgery to happen asap!
Gross motor....
Toru started walking at 2 years 9months! He started taking a couple of steps in Feb and it took 3 more months for him to be confident and walk around.
Glasses....
Toru now owns 4th pair of glasses and he is a lot better with them. Still takes them off but it's a lot less often.
Feeding...
He can use sippy cups and staws for drinking. Scooping and forking are still hard but getting there. He is throwing things a lot less and wanting to try a lot more.
His favorite activity....
Watching youtube! He is simply obsessed with youtube. He just wants to "listen" to all the nursery rymes and thomas the tank engine related music.
He also loves reading books with us.
I think that is about it.
I just wanted to share what we have been up to.
Thank you for reading!!!
xxx Jin

Bievenue au Canada!!! Ok that is pretty much the extent of my french, but hope you love it over there. I hear montreal is absolutely beautiful and hope to go one day, frankly it's almost cheaper for me to fly to London, UK than Montreal :S

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome back!
Yes, I won't stay away too long this time.
Kasey, I'm sure it is more expensive to come to Montreal than going to London. Isn't that crazy??/!!!

Welcome back and welcome in Canada. I'm also in the Quebec province but our services are nowhere as good as yours in our area (Gatineau). Glad to hear things are going so well for Toru.

Hi Evelyne ,
I was just in Chelsea and Ottawa last week. Of course, I passed through Gatineau;)
The service I am getting is all private. We are only able to do this by living with my parents in laws. If I had to wait for the government, I was not going to get any done. Especially, since we moved here when Toru was about 2. We still haven't got any social worker, you know? Hence, we are getting ZERO from Quebec, so far. What kind of therapies are you getting from Quebec?

She is "followed" by an OT and an ST. She was followed by physio until she was walking. She doesn't get therapies but a psychoeducator visits one hour each week to do exercises as recommended by a team that includes OT, ST and PT. She also gets a 1:1 aide 20 hours each week in daycare. That person works on the goals setup in the early intervention plan.
