Conversation I had this morning with my soon-to-be-9-year-old:

Me: "So, Katie, what do you want for your birthday?"

Katie, without any hesitation: "How about a make-up kit, with mascara and eye-shadow? And NO boys at my birthday party!"

Uh...did somebody replace my little girl with a 14 year old???!!!! Yikes!!!! Smile

Thought you guys would appreciate the laugh,
Deane

Deane- that is too funny! I cannot believe Kate is turning 9 years old already. She is so pretty-does not need any make up and keep the boys away for as long as you can! What are her B-day plans?

I think Cassie was 7 or 8 when she first started asking for makeup, and instead of going with my instinctive, knee-jerk reaction of "definitely not, you are WAY too young!", I thought about it and let her have makeup JUST to use at home with her friends or at friends houses, kind of like dress-up. Recently we've let her wear makeup for special occasions, like my sister's wedding.

Not making such a big deal out of it seems to have worked like a charm though. She moved up to middle school this year, and I was fully expecting her to ask to start wearing it at school, but we're over a week in now and she still hasn't asked, even though I know most of the girls there do wear makeup. I'll say yes when she does ask, she has a hard time fitting in already because she's very kind and goes out of her way to be nice to kids with disabilities and even tells off other kids who are mean to them, and there's no point in letting her be singled out for something so petty. Plus she's a very responsible young lady and doesn't overdo her makeup.

Chris and Christina, yes, I'll get her some 'play' make-up for just playing around the house. I don't think she's really too serious about it, but just wants to try it out and have fun. (I hope!) lol!

Mary, I know!!! I can't believe she's going to be 9 myself! Smile Because her birthday is in October she wants to have a costume party at night with a bonfire. And she has 7 girlfriends coming over and we'll play pin-the-nose-on-the-pumpkin and 'hot potato' except with a min-pumpkin.

They always love to play freeze-dance and then we'll hang some apples from string and let them try to bite them without using their hands for help. Then we turn them loose in the huge, dark backyard with flashlights and let them play flashlight tag and chase each other and scream for awhile. Smile I find kids love our simple party games and I think it's because everyone else takes them to Chuck-E-Cheese or rents a bounce-house for them.

As long as it doesn't rain, we're golden! Smile

How is Marissa doing these days??? I lost my password for NADS and haven't been over there in a long time, so haven't heard any updates from you.

Deane
