Hi – My name is Rae. My son, Cameron has Trisomy 21. He just turned 15 months, born April 8, 2005. He has a 3-year-old sister, Brooke. We live in Tennessee, but we are originally from Pennsylvania. Beth, Hannah’s mom – screen name hannah - told me about this site. We met recently and live in the same city! This board has been very helpful to me and I was just talking to my husband about the site the other night. Our conversation made me decide to introduce myself. We think that I have really “chilled out” about Cameron since I began reading.
We are so lucky – Cameron is very healthy. He was born a little early and was in intensive care for 10 days. We also spent 2 weeks at Vanderbilt for a collapsed lung and for needing oxygen. Those were hard days, and I know how lucky we are to have a healthy, happy child.
Cameron is a very pleasant, content, happy little guy. He sits when put there, rolls, and pushes up on his hands and has started getting up on his knees. He scoots backwards a little, but generally doesn’t like to move around much. He plays with toys, mostly when sitting. I can get him to clap a little and do so big. He babbles a lot, but no words that we are sure of. We sign with him, but no luck yet. My biggest struggle is that I want him to move and progress to the next stage. I know that he will do it all soon enough.
I have enjoyed seeing the pictures of all of your beautiful children and learning about them. Thank you for sharing with others.

Welcome, Rae! I think Cameron is doing great! My daughter is 2 1/2 years old. I was trying to remember back, she didn't want to be on her knees! The PT and I kept working on it, she did it when she was ready and I think it was right around 15 months. At 15 months, we were doing signs with her but SHE was not doing signs yet. I think her first sign was around 17 - 18 months. Now she has about 100 signs! Aleena was more passive, like you are describing Cameron - she was content to stay in one place to play. All our kids develop differently, but it sounds to me like Cameron is doing JUST FINE!!!

WElcome to the site. Your children are adorable. I have chilled out too since I have been posting. I think that everyone here has helped to "normalize" my feelings and situation. I have two girls: Mackenzie just turned six this week and Avery DS is 22 mos. I can't wait to hear more about your lovely family. Welcome!

Welcome!! Your kids are gorgeous. Talitha and I just got back from spending a week in hospital as she had a chest infection. It's great to see you here. This place has made such a difference in my life - and it's all good.

Hello and welcome to Downsyn. You have adorable children. I too some times wish Kait would move on to next step a little faster and then when she does I want to wish it back. She is everywhere and getting herself stuck all over. No more lazing around for this girl. She is keeping me busy.

Cameron and Brooke are adorable!
In your signature photo Brooke's whole face is lit up with her smile. Cameron is definitely a dark and handsome one.
Someone once told me that very often our kids seem to be making no progress then all of sudden they do a whole bunch of new things at once. You are right that Cameron will do it all soon enough, but sometimes we want our kids to make that next step . . . . . . .and then before you know it we wish they were little again.
Enjoy your two beautiful children.
