If you have had this done - what should I expect? Painful? How long till I get the results? Would you do it again?

I had it done with my second pregnancy. The only painful part was having a full bladder and then having to wait 30 minutes past the scheduled appointment time as they were running late!

The doctor uses an ultrasound to make sure that he's in the right spot and mine also checked the nuchal fold and looked for the nasal bone at the same time. Mine was done vaginally and felt pretty much like a regular pap smear.

I rested for the following day and then everything was back to normal. I got preliminary results (FISH test) within 48 hours and the final results in a week.

The doctor I saw was a specialist and had a large amount of experience with both amnio and CVS. I really recommend checking how many of these tests the doctor has done. The more experience the better.

I agree with the above. It's painless for the most part and the full bladder is the worst of it.

I would do it again however I would make them test thru 100 cell lines. They only go thru the 1st 20 and Larkin's DS was not detected until the 50th cell line.

I would check with the person carrying out this check what their record is like purely as their is a risk of miscarriage

I think you are doing the right thing by asking peoples opinions and then whatever you decide to do at least it is an informed decision
